IRIS APFEL: RARE BIRD OF FASHION

What a fabulous afternoon we had in Salem on sleety icky Saturday at the Peabody Essex Museum. We treated ourselves to a docent-led tour of Iris Apfel's fashions! Wow! She has style! Before we went thru the exhibit we spied her in the fabulous PEM gift shop with Michael Vollbracht! Check out her Minnie Mouse appliqued pants! I don't think I could pull that off. I was able to take one pic inside the exhibit before the guard smacked me down! I guess you'll just have to go see these "irreverent" fashions for yourself! The exhibit is there til February.
We were in the atrium as the museum was closing for the day and saw Iris and Michael and Mr. Apfel (sooo stylish too in his mid-90s!) packing up to venture out in the icky weather and i went up to them to introduce myself and ask if my father had ever photographed her. She sweetly responded that he had not. She asked me for my card tho! Don't know why! Michael Vollbract, however, said he has the books and has long been a fan! Kinda fun! I told him I had had a very cool plaid jumpsuit of his back in the early 90s! I wonder where that is now!
After our afternoon at the museum we had an early dinner at Bella Verona alongside the Hawthorne Hotel. I love this little Italian jewel just miles from our home. Salem was looking very festive for the holidays. Note to self...check out the Salem holiday house tour this weekend next year!
